The Human Rights Advocacy Centre (HRAC) is a non-profit, independent, non-partisan, research and advocacy organisation set up to advance and protect human rights in Ghana.

This coming Saturday, 12th May, HRAC are running a sensitisation forum for women in the Ashaiman locality of the Greater Accra Region at 10:00am at the Bethel Royal Worship Centre near the Chiefs Palace at Zenu. This forum aims to educate women on their right to sexual and reproductive health, and is based around the theme ‘Know your rights.’

Matters to be discussed include maternal mortality, family planning, access to safe abortion services, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and gender based violence. The program will empower women to take responsibility and make informed choices on issues related to sexual and reproductive health.

HRAC firmly believes that access to information on these issues empowers women to be strong and aware, particularly in situations where they feel that their rights are being threatened.

This will be achieved through discussion and information-sharing, but also through interactive role plays containing key messages to help the women in the Ashaiman community to ‘know their rights.’Forum participants will be given the opportunity to ask questions during the final session of the day, which allows participants to develop a deeper understanding of their human rights as they apply to their specific situations, and allow them to feel empowered to claim their rights in an everyday context.

HRAC is dedicated to reducing violations against women in the Ashaiman community, and in all of Ghana through education and awareness-raising. Saturday’s forum takes place after the success of HRAC’s Valentine’s Day seminar for market women in Accra, and is part of HRAC greater interest in promoting women’s rights throughout Ghana.

HRAC invites all interested members of the media to attend this event.
