Every child has a right to be protected from doing work that is harmful, and to not be deprived of medical care, education or other benefits due to religious beliefs.
Ama is from a poor family in Accra. In order to survive she works in the Korle lagoon, which is a digital-dumping ground. She has to scavenge through all the e-waste in order to find reusable parts that she can sell. Through this work she is subject to radiation and extremely unsanitary conditions, which are harmful to her well-being. Therefore, Ama’s rights as a child are being violated. She should not have to do work that is harmful to her well-being.
