Bringing Rights To LIfe

The Executive Director HRAC

Here at HRAC, our mission has always been to empower the voiceless, defend the marginalized, and advocate for policies that uphold the fundamental freedoms of all people.
I am passionate about working within the development space, and I share my deepest appreciation to all who have contributed to the growth and influence of HRAC, the current team, our invaluable partners, and all the individuals and organizations who continue to support our work. Your dedication fuels our mission and strengthens our resolve to fight for a more just society.

Key Achievements

In bringing “Rights to Life”, we have through advocacy, legal aid, research, and education, played a crucial role in shaping policies that advance the rights of people living in Ghana by, supporting victims of injustice, and raising awareness about critical human rights issues. In addition, by strategic litigation, community outreach programs, and policy engagement, we have been able to effect meaningful change in the lives of many.

The accomplishments of HRAC over the past 16 years include a Legal Audit of HIV law, which served as a Technical paper in the redrafting of the National HIV Policy, Research into the violations of Female Sex workers in Ghana by the Ghana Police Service, and Strategic Litigation for labor violations of persons wrongfully dismissed.  Our forte remains advocacy and action in Gender equality and equity as well as GBV prevention. We have supported marginalized people and in 2023/24, we enrolled 40 vulnerable unemployed youth in the TVET program to have certified and employable life skills.

As part of our advocacy mandate, we engaged youth groups to educate them on the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill passed in February 2024 to expose them to the details of the Bill. This is critical to policy awareness creation for the youth to know and understand how policies influence the ordinary Ghanaian.

The milestones of HRAC reflect the power of collective action and the impact of relentless advocacy.

The Challenges

Call to Action

Whilst we celebrate our successes, we also acknowledge the challenges that persist—discrimination, gender-based violence, access to justice, and the protection of vulnerable populations. These issues remind us that our work is far from over and that we must remain steadfast in our commitment.

In recent years, we have witnessed significant progress, but we also acknowledge the persistent challenges. From gender-based violence to unlawful detentions, from limited freedom of speech to access to healthcare and emerging abuse in our high schools. The road to achieving true human rights for all is long and requires the collective efforts of government agencies, and civil society organizations.

We need all hands on deck to continue supporting our cause, either through collaboration, advocacy, seminars, conferences and volunteering. Human rights are not just legal principles; they are the foundation of a just and prosperous society. Together, we can create a future where Freedom, Dignity, and Equality are not just ideals, but realities for all.

As we look ahead, let us reaffirm our commitment to upholding the dignity of every human being. Let us stand against democratic oppression, amplify the voices of the vulnerable, and work towards a Ghana where human rights are not just words on paper, but actions that shape our society.

Join us in our new community and school interventions as we implement our “Make a Teacher Smile” and “Dyslexia Awareness Creation” Projects.
