About Human Rights Advocacy Centre, Ghana

The Human Rights Advocacy Centre (HRAC) is a not-for-profit, independent, non-partisan, research and advocacy Organization set up to advance and protect human rights in Ghana. Established and situated in Accra, the capital town of Ghana since 2008, the Organisation is a household name across Ghana due to the wide coverage of its services across the nation. The HRAC was established by Nana Oye Lithur, the former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection who is an ardent human rights advocate. She conceived the vision to set up the Organisation during her tenure of office as the Head of the African regional branch of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI).

SCOPE OF WORK AND THEMATIC AREAS

Social Inclusion

We focus on providing access to rights and protection for marginalized groups through diverse projects and programs that enhance their participation and access to essential services.

Health

We focus on promoting the health rights of key populations and other vulnerable groups including women, girls, people living with HIV and persons with disabilities, including mental disabilities.

Legislation and Policy Reform

HRAC identifies gaps and shortfalls in Ghana’s policy and legislative framework. We engage decision makers to influence reforms 

Government Accountability

HRAC engages state actors to evaluate state compliance with national and international laws.

Access to Justice

HRAC’s Human Rights Clinic, provide free legal support to the public to promote equal access to justice for all Ghanaians. 

Community and Institutional Strengthening

HRAC organizes outreach programmes to empower local communities about their rights and responsibilities.
